Miguel and his wife spent the 1970s moving from farm to farm, working without much stability. That changed when a friend offered Miguel the chance to buy a parcel of land. Using the money he had saved, he purchased it and named the farm La Esperanza, a nod to his hope of owning a farm, building a home and beginning his own story. Miguel learned about planting and coffee from his in-laws and has stayed close to the crop ever since. His focus on quality and specialty coffee has helped him build friendships, access new varieties and improve the farm’s infrastructure. Today, La Esperanza supports his family and stands as a source of real pride What makes it special? Bourbon Aj.. Despite growing in Colombia, this coffee variety is genetically connected to Ethiopian landrace, making it a rare and limited coffee. "Aj" comes from the Spanish word for chilli pepper, the name inspired by a distinctive spicy aroma of the coffee mucilage that was discovered when the first picking this cherry about 20 years ago.
